The month of June is off to a warm and welcoming start, pills but things may change for the wetter later this week. We’re used to seeing a tremendous amount of variation in the weather during any season here in Lake Tahoe. Storms or no storms, we’re fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.
This week kicks off with a couple of sunny days before thunderstorms charge into the area Thursday. We could see rain through the weekend, but I bet we get some nice pockets of sun in between showers. Temperatures remain in the high 60s and winds peak in the afternoons. It might be a tricky week to get out on the lake, but keep an eye on Saturday and Sunday morning for calm conditions. Check the webcam for live updates.
Our rental fleet is now available for anyone who wants to jump on a board at Lakeview Commons. We’ve seen a nice bump in the lake level. If you’ve driven down Highway 50 past the beach, you’ve probably seen paddlers out cruising along the turquoise shallows. The lake is almost warm enough for a swim, so get ready to jump in!
Preparations continue for our biggest event of the year, Race the Lake of the Sky. We want this year to be perfect, and so far we’re off to a great start.
We’re also happy to welcome back Kona Brewing Company as a major sponsor. The Hawaii craft brewer will be pouring its three most popular beers – Big Wave Golden Ale, Longboard Island Lager, and Castaway IPA – at the Kona Cove Beer Garden, which is designed to transport visitors to the idyllic island locale where Kona Brewing was born and bred.
“We’re proud to share the spirit of the Islands with race participants and fans of Race the Lake of the Sky for the third year in a row,” said Kona Brewing brand manager Aaron Marion. “Standup paddling originated in Hawaii, and it’s a thrill to see it take off across the U.S. – just like Kona’s Liquid Aloha.”
There is still plenty of time to register for the race. We will also host a variety of workshops and clinics that weekend. Don’t forget you’ll need a personal flotation device for the races.
That’s it for this week. If you have any questions about paddling on Lake Tahoe or if you’re looking for gear, feel free to stop by the shop. We’re open every day. If somebody isn’t in the front shop, we are most likely around back in the warehouse. Or you can give us a ring at 530-416-4829. You can also reach us on our Facebook page. And make sure to follow South Tahoe Standup Paddle and Race the Lake of the Sky on Instagram. Current conditions on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore are always available on our webcam. We hope you have a fantastic week out there.
