Wow! We are in for an absolute all-time early summer week here at Lake Tahoe. The weather is turning around and the paddling will more than likely be fantastic.
Temperatures will jump into the high 70s by Thursday, buy topping out in the low 80s through the weekend. We’re looking at days of full sun, ailment so make sure to put on sunscreen. Winds will do their typical warm season act, rising in the afternoons, dropping off in the mornings and evenings. The best windows for paddling this week appear to be Friday and Saturday morning when it will be sunny, warm and wind-less. I might even jump in.
The banner is strung up across Highway 50, so I guess RACE THE LAKE OF THE SKY is really happening. There’s been a bunch of cool announcements over the last couple of days. First up, we’ve got a new clinic offered by pro paddlers Nakoa and Talia Decoite. In “Beyond the Water,” they’ll focus on an all-around curriculum that will help elevate the performance of paddlers of any level. This will likely fill up, so if you’re interested, register soon.
For the groms, we’ve got the South Tahoe SUP Junior Team kicking off their season. Youngsters from 6 to 17 can join and train with some of the best youth paddlers in the country. With coach Tracy Day at the helm, team training starts on June 20th. You can download registration forms on Flatwater Paddle Company’s website.
Make sure to join us at 10:30 a.m. on June 13 for a beach cleanup at El Dorado Beach. Along with MacDuff’s Public House, we’re partnering with the city’s Adopt a Beach program to make sure our home sand is clean as can be. We will have buckets, trash grabbers and other tools to get after that garbage.
In other news, we’re going to be announcing the dates for the Wednesday Night SUP Series soon. We also may be cooking up some other big things for the South Tahoe paddle scene, so check back often.
That’s it for this week. If you have any questions about paddling on Lake Tahoe or if you’re looking for gear, feel free to stop by the shop. We’re open every day. If somebody isn’t in the front shop, we are most likely around back in the warehouse. Or you can give us a ring at 530-416-4829. You can also reach us on our Facebook page. And make sure to follow South Tahoe Standup Paddle and Race the Lake of the Sky on Instagram. Current conditions on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore are always available on our webcam. We hope you have a fantastic week out there.
Cheers to summer!
